Da Vinci’s Machine is a surreal and playful cartoon series I created in 2025, following the adventures of a fictionalised Leonardo da Vinci as he travels through Australian history, culture and imagination in a strange flying machine.

I draw the series in pencil, using a hand-crafted aesthetic that allows me to blend humour, absurdity, history and pop culture into a dreamlike visual journey. Across the works, Da Vinci encounters historical figures, Australian landscapes, inventions, pubs, rockets and other iconic Australian references, creating a world that feels both nostalgic and bizarre.

Through these cartoons, I combine comic-strip storytelling with experimental illustration. The series reflects my interest in modern mythology, conceptual art and the collision between the past, present and future.

For me, Da Vinci becomes a kind of time-travelling observer — a way of looking at Australia through the eyes of an outsider who is simultaneously familiar and completely out of place.
